Reflections 2/1/21: A friend messaged me with this Amy Grant song, “El Shaddai” and it blessed my heart this morning! (Forgot how many incredible songs lie in the archives of Christian music!) One verse in particular caught my ear.

🎶 “Through the years you’ve made it clear,

That the time of Christ was near,

Though the people couldn’t see

What Messiah ought to be.

Though Your Word contained the plan,

They just could not understand

Your most awesome work was done

Through the frailty of Your Son.” 🎶

That last line threw me for a loop! Frailty? I think of the cross as a place of victory. BUT it took laying aside Your eternal omnipotence with a willingness to be frail, subject to the whims of man(un)kind to make that victory happen. And “Your most awesome work was done” in that surrender! WOW. Makes my present frailty a valuable commodity in Your economy! Useable. Meaningful. Redeemable! Doesn’t make it pleasant. After all  who wants to be frail? BUT in Your upside-down world of seeming contradictions, it is the secret to discovering Your power most fully. So “frail” Jesus, may Your surrendered “sheep before the shearers” acceptance mark my journey through this cancer. And result in some “awesome work” for the glory of Your Kingdom.
