Reflections 10/26/2020: Poor Roo had digestive problems last night and got us up 3 times in response to his newly developed “Gotta go!”  whine. October snow… 5 degrees out! Great…BUT this is the view that blessed my eyes! Your cross Jesus. An ancient mechanism of torture and death. Antiquated? Irrelevant to 21st C. intelligentsia? As mythical as the jack-o’-lantern grinning toothless beside it? Funny that this morning I plunged into I Corinthians chapter 1 as I was thinking about the cross and its seemingly divisive message. Paul’s words, penned almost 2000 years ago, slapped me in the face with the realization that opposition to the cross was just as virulent back then as now.

“For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the POWER of God and the WISDOM of God.”

I Cor.‬ ‭1:21-24‬

I’d be more sheepish about embracing Your cross Jesus, but I have experienced firsthand what Paul claims it offers. God’s POWER and WISDOM! Life-changing transformation! So I proclaim it . Not at the edge of a sword. Not with manipulative salesmanship. Just with honest accounting of my personal experience kneeling at the foot of the cross, where Your blood of forgiveness and reconciliation poured out on me!
