Reflections 11/3/2020: Ed and I decided to brave the onslaught of over 200 art galleries located on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I guess my preconceived notion of art galleries was fashioned by Rodeo Drive with stuffy, sterile white walls dotted with abstract paintings, lots of confusing, modern metal sculptures, and an air of superiority over my ignorance of what constitutes art! So I asked You, God, to give me a new mind to take in this onslaught with openness. Much to my/our surprise, Canyon Road was a tiny (almost dirt) road that used to be the route the pony express riders galloped along, bringing news-hungry settlers their “trail mail!” Again, time-machined us back to days of old! Right up my alley… which is where all the galleries were humbly situated. I think we spent more time taking pictures of the external store fronts, story-ridden wood doors, 150 year old adobe, and cobbled stone walls than we did perusing the actual galleries! Architecture is art! It was enchanting! So lesson learned Lynette. Keep an open mind (and heart!) to experience things with a clean slate! You never know what new things you will discover when you do. And now I get why Santa Fe is dubbed “The City Different!” Made quite a difference in my preconceived attitudes toward art!
