Reflections 8/19/2020: Yesterday I had company on my jaunt to the reservoir for serenity floating. My old WaterWorld compadre, Jill, risked a sunbathed outing with me! Not her normal Florida beaches, (and no cabana boys), but delightful none the less! We managed to escape the huge gaggle of geese, (a horror story for Jill), hungrily eyeing our lunch, but this straggler decided to hang out with us. She only has one good leg… the other is an amputated stump that is so short that she falls over when she tries to walk.😢Still not clear how she ended up in my arms… I think when she fell over and was flailing to right herself, my protective impulses kicked in and I leaped up and rescued her, huge flapping wings and all. (Just what Jill was trying to avoid!) I expected a lot of biting and honking, but she actually relaxed on my embrace. Gave me a good look at her stump though… and the idea for possible prosthetic to attach to the stump. (Been watching too many vet shows… and Grey’s Anatomy). I scoured my beach bag for possibilities, and was only able to track scavenge a plastic fish, an elastic hair tie, a rubber strap from swimming goggles and some soggy cord… not much MacGiver material to concoct a fake foot. BUT, not to be deterred in my messianic mission, I plan to contact “Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet” to see if his Animal Planet show might want to take this prosthetic challenge on pro bono for an interesting episode! Never hurts to try! The trick will be relocating and seducing “Peg-gy” back into my arms… her trust may have been shattered by my rash rescue! So Jill, are you up for another close encounter with big bird? You have to admit, it did liven up our beach lounging!
