Reflections 6/13/2020: Yesterday a mommy deer gave birth to her fawn right on the sidewalk behind our house! Where dozens of people pass by every hour! Not exactly a primo spot for such an intimate moment. First timer perhaps? Or just a vey rushed labor that was unexpected? My handsome hero Ed got to be the midwife for the occasion! (He is becoming quite the nature aficionado! Even enjoying my morning meetings with the crows and magpies!) At the time I was in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at a doctor’s office, experimenting with a cancer treatment!) Ed called the local rangers and they were able to move the helpless fawn, (via a tarp and gloved hands, so as not to leave their scent), off of the sidewalk into a hidden, grass-sheltered area a few feet away… so mama would still be able to find him. We think she dropped a twin fawn about 50 yards up the open space as well. Thankfully she is hanging around and seems to know where both of them are! God, Your creation is wild and beautiful! Thank You for these up close and personal encounters with other animals who share our incredible planet!
