Reflections 8/30/2020: I’m ALL for peaceful protest and expressing outrage at true injustice! Let’s just find out some facts before painting signs and hitting the streets! Case in point; attacking Rand Paul coming out of the White House at the RNC… shouting about his indifference to the death of Breonna Taylor…”Say her name!” I would say “ironically,” but it is more appropriately “igno-RANT-ly.” The mob was oblivious to the FACT that it is Rand Paul who is “saying her name” the most loudly… with legislative action behind his words! Sponsoring the “Justice for Breonna Taylor Act” to end the no-knock warrants that caused her very unfair death. Or the recent suicide by a Black man that was falsely portrayed as more police brutality against the Black community, igniting more violence and looting. Let out-rage come out of legitimate facts, not pre-conceived pre-judices. I get it that aggressive protesting sparks something deep inside people desperate to have a cause that infuses meaning into their lives. We all long for that. It can be alluringly addictive in its energizing power. But wait for the facts first! Knee jerk reactions on ALL sides are what has caused this problem from the very beginning! Give the authorities room to investigate the details, the back stories, the causes of the altercations, THEN paint your signs if the FACTS truly warrant it. In FACT I’ll help you paint and parade those signs. Injustice is wrong. But so is violent protesting over faulty facts.
