Boy does this picture fly me back in time! Some of the contraptions we 6 kids came up with to build were epic! Dune buggies. Scooters. Go-carts. Horse-drawn apparatuses. Wind-blown sailing crafts. Probably helped that my dad was a scavenger at heart and bought stuff like parts from 15 disassembled mini bikes that gave us ALL kinds of raw materials to work with! That and the inspiration of “The Little Rascals’” concoctions inspired many a “big dream” that we engineered into existence! My least favorite was the gravity-driven go-cart that I got the honors of manning down a very steep street. We had thought of everything to give it speed, and nothing to slow it down! No brake system! As it picked up momentum going down the hill, I realized I was in trouble! Not only could I not slow down, but my makeshift rope steering system detached and I was headed straight for a curb! Kaboom! Can you say “ejection seat?” Total catapult up over the front of the go-cart, which was bad enough, but then to crash into the biggest goat-head sticker patch in the neighborhood added insult to injury! I had to cry for rescue from my pit crew to extricate me from their venomous clutches! God, those dreams were fun! Not so many now… hmmm. If You have new frontiers for me to dream about, start weaving them into my awareness. It’s a little boring just making “survival” the goal of my vision board.
