Talk about camouflage wear! Unbelievable!! Only his eyes give him away! Funny I was just reading in Hebrews about “not neglecting to give hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Divinity in camouflage! Probably happens all the time without our awareness! One time I think I caught an angel in action though. I was riding Calley, my horse, early one Summer morning with my dog Koda accompanying me (off leash)… but don’t tell the rangers. A lone coyote approached him and wooed him up the side of the valley we were in. Suddenly Koda was surrounded by 4 other rabid coyotes who obviously wanted to kill him! Calley (an accomplished alpha mare) rose to the occasion and let me ride her right into the midst of the snarling pack. They scattered, but as we chased off 2 of them, the other 3 circled back to do Koda in! After multiple rushes at them, Koda realized we couldn’t help him much and took off running, all 5 coyotes hot on his tail! A steep downhill forced Calley and me to pursue them more slowly and we got quite far behind the chase. As I watched helplessly, I noticed off in the distance a figure in light clothing emerge over a rise in the path of the coyotes’ pursuit. Koda ran by this person but the coyotes mysteriously scattered in all directions, allowing Koda to escape! They sure weren’t afraid of big Calley and me, but gave wide berth to this figure! As we galloped up to thank him/her for the intervention, no one was there! Caput! Vanished! I scanned the horizon on all sides and no sign of anyone to be found… and the coyotes had fled back to their dens. Koda raced to the safety of the stables where we were reunited with tremendous relief and joy! (Took me 24 hours to get rid of the adrenalin rushing through my body!) An angel? My imagination? Wishful thinking? Maybe… but the coyotes saw something formidable! In any case, I am always on the lookout for God’s camouflaged interactions in my life! Makes each day a Sherlock Holmes adventure in discovery!
