Something about this picture resonates with me. Besides being sooo stinkin’ cute, it takes me back to my childhood… and my experience with ponies. They look like the most gentle, amiable little guys in the world. BUT that is just an illusion! Stubborn, opinionated, and downright cantankerous, they are quite the challenge to actually ride! My best friend in 5th grade, Connie, had such a Shetland pony, Apache! I think she ended up either on the ground or on a runaway freight train every time we went on a ride! Luckily the falls were very close to the ground, so not much damage was done! But I learned my lesson not to trust appearances! They can be deceptive! Obviously this father had learned this lesson and roped this obstinate pony into submission to protect his young rider. How delighted she looks to be included in this equestrian adventure! That resonates with me too! How many adventures have You shared with me God, lead rope in hand to protect me from falls and runaways! I often wanted to be cut loose to control my own steed, but You knew when to give me more rein, and when not to! And the times I stripped that shank from Your guiding hand were discoveries that “pride truly does go before the fall!” With resulting scars to prove it! So Lynette, “pony up,” for the ride of your life, but entrust that lead rope into God’s capable hands! “Talley-ho!”
