The exodus of families from attending church has me concerned. Not judgmental, but deeply wondering how spiritual truths and a genuine relationship with You God are being passed down to this next generation? Plenty of investment in sports training, music, drama, multi-lingual language acquisition, art classes, etc., but what about laying a solid foundation in You, Lord? I realize it doesn’t HAVE to look exactly like the route my parents took; church every Sunday, Sunday school classes, confirmation training, grace said at every meal and bedtime prayers to close out the day. But WHAT does it look like these days? A family hike in lieu of Church on Sunday mornings? Could be spiritually valuable… at least as a family bonding time. Can’t put a price tag on that! BUT foundations take actual intentional design. Concrete footings, waterproofed crossbeams, bombproof bolts, and an architectural plan. The rest of the building’s stability literally depends on that foundation! So much of my present tense faith rests on those early foundations my parents laid in me. Morality? Absolutely. But much more than that. A deep, abiding sense of Your Presence God… as my Compass, power Source, and Lover of my Soul. So formative in my world-view, heck, even my self-view! So I am open to new ways to convey that to this next generation, but I hope and pray that some intentional thought is going into what that actually looks like.
