Nothing fancy, just a determined daffodil popping up in our garden. Right next to the tulips that have already been de-budded by the avaricious deer. No blooms coming from them… again. Dang deer! (Sorry Bambi). I discovered that daffodils are actually toxic to deer, and one bite makes them vow to never munch on them again! Strangely, (or normally for me), this learned aversion got me thinking about something I read way back in my 20’s. It was an ingenious vow of sorts to soooo surprise Satan with an “uncommon response” to his temptations,  (drawing closer to God), that he had to think twice about trying that attack again! Distasteful daffodils stuck in his mouth! Exact opposite of what he expected! Toxicity to the tormentor! Love that phrase, “uncommon response!” Serenity in the face of adversity. Gentleness in the face of abuse. Faith in the face of confusing pain! God, slow my reaction times down so I take the needed moment to consider what an “uncommon response” would be to that challenge. Change my delicious tulip “come hither” bloom to daffodil distastefulness when Satan prowls in my garden!
