Reflections 10/18/2020: Ed and I have been fascinated to watch instinctual dog surges take hold of Roo. (Not him in this picture… but close). The most recent one is his desperate need to find a place to hide his bones… I guess to save them for a rainy day. Outside he has resorted to obsessive digging,(thanks for choosing the exact location of my newly planted Spring bulbs!) But inside the house, where digging doesn’t work, he gets more creative. Crevices in the couch, tucked in along floor boards (as if we can’t see them!), and in bookcases under knickknacks, papers and (dare I admit it), dust! It is sooo cute that we just have to laugh at his determination! “Silly canines!” Makes me wonder if You, Lord, find our urge to tuck things away for future security just as endearing? “Silly humans!” I’m all for 401Ks, pensions and retirement plans… just makes sense… but perhaps what makes the difference on whether You find it endearing or adulterous is HOW MUCH we look to it for our sense of security. It can be gone in a wisp of misfortune! Just talk to an Enron retiree, or an uninsured home owner in a aftermath of a hurricane, or an unexpected medical emergency! Bones come and go! Digging spots exposed! But You God, are here for us regardless of the success of our bone burying endeavors!
