Reflections 5/28/2020: How funny is this?!! I was a huge “Gilligan’s Island” fan in my childhood! Captured my imagination of survival on a remote island! (Always thought Mary Ann got a raw deal by being one-upped by Ginger’s movie star status! But figured that’s life. Fodder for my beginnings of philosophical musings.) Somehow the lack of toilet paper never occurred to me! About this time we took a tour of Universal City and I was SHOCKED to see the puny sandlot on a tiny pond where they filmed “Gilligan’s Island.” SOOO not a remote island!! SOOO not an issue of survival!!! (No wonder the professor always came up with unlikely gadgets to enhance their lives! He lived 2 miles from Ace Hardware!) It staggered me more than discovering Santa wasn’t real! It ruined my watching this sitcom forever! God, I wonder if these kind of discoveries of deception set the stage for people putting You in the same category? All hype… no reality. Did it for me? Hmmm… maybe in my early teens. BUT 50 years of finding You legitimately faithful have convinced me otherwise! Toilet paper arrives at just the right time! Gadgets appear exactly when I need them! An unlikely peace envelops me when survival feels iffy. I discover radio communication with Something larger than life! Rescue boats whisk me away from isolation and despair! No Universal City hype plays a role! “Earth’s Island” is for real! And You are actively watching over us!
