Reflections 2/26/2020: No matter how drained and beat up I feel as I fall into bed at night, there is something about the “newness of Your mercies in the morning” that give me a fresh burst of hope! Funny that these incredibly positive verses about Your faithfulness, Lord, are embedded in the most depressive, bitter diatribe about all the horrible things that are happening to Jeremiah and the entire nation of Judah as it is taken into bloodied exile. Read the first 20 verses of Lamentations 3 and you’d NEVER EXPECT verses 22-24 to emerge from that dark, hopeless place! BUT it all hinges on a choice… a choice of what to focus on. “THIS I recall to mind!” Your faithfulness God! Can’t wait for all the dark clouds to disperse to find You in the fog. I will CHOOSE to “recall” Your character and track record despite all the contradictory data! And I choose that today God, despite aggravating itches, a swollen neck housing a blot clot, hair that is falling out in clumps, a body that is sagging where it used to portray muscles, and a face only a mother could love! New day? Same God! Mercies sufficient for another rotation around the sun.
