Reflections 6/22/2020: There is research being done on what is called “neurotheology.” It studies what parts of the brain are activated when people are experiencing a spiritual moment of connection with something they call “God.” Opponents of the reality of God use that research to poo poo the experience of God as simply human-induced neurological activity in certain parts of the brain. I see it as just the opposite! To me it is You, God, building into our brains the incredible ability to sense Your Presence! Divine design! How else would You connect with us? We are physiological creatures! Actually You have created another path to discovery of Your “with us.” Incarnation! Jesus! Coming to our world clothed in our own human flesh so You could communicate with words as well as neurological stimulation! Faith fills in the gaps when our brains aren’t actively producing the serotonin of spiritual delight. I read this verse this morning in my meditation of the day. “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and WILL DISCLOSE Myself to him.” WOW! Jesus’ promise to “disclose” Himself to us! Key to that disclosure? Loving Him! Some of that disclosure will be neurological activity in our brains. But other dimensions of that disclosure will be cognitive discovery of truths about You through Your Word, others’ shared experiences of Your Presence in their lives, and our accumulated track record of Your faithfulness in the nitty gritty dailyness of of our own journey! All activated by our “love for You!”
