As I’ve traveled with the ten Boom sisters, (in “The Hiding Place”), from prison cell to prison cell, I have been humbled by their acquiescent attitudes. Especially Betsy’s. Here is Corrie’s incredulous perception of her sister. “I had the feeling she was as content to be reading the Bible here in Vught (prison) to those who had never heard it as she’d been serving soup to hungry people in the hallways of Beje (their beloved home.)” Holy smokes! How revolutionary is that?! The specifics of where You’ve planted us, Lord, are almost irrelevant. Uncomfortable perhaps, but not the limiting factor. Doesn’t change our calling one iota. “Love You and help the people around us to find Your love as well.” So “Paul-ine” in its focus. “Prison is just another pulpit. God is just as dynamic here as in the public square.” Requires not only faith… but a willingness to allow our physical comfort to be shot to hell in that process if need be. (Something I am presently working on). Soooo… “Hello Cancer. Not sure why you are here. Not sure if you’re going away. But this prison cell doesn’t bar me from Your love, Father. Nor keep that Light streaming through from warming other people’s hearts with the hope and strength to face their unwanted imprisonments.”
