Reflections 3/29/2020: Well, I am definitely enrolled in the class on forgiveness, like it or not! I am reading the book, “The Forgiveness Project.” It is a program they use at Cancer Treatment Centers of America to help in the complete healing process. I was expecting a cut and dried “Five Steps to Forgiving Others,” but it is not that. It simply takes you through a discovery process of personal insights that can add up to a spontaneous letting go of the anger and need for retribution. It introduces the concept of the “equivalence point,” a scientific fact of when just the right amount of hydrogen is added to oxygen, water spontaneously forms. So forgiveness happens, like an “emotional equivalence point” when the bits of insight you gain about both the other person and yourself come together to form this whole new emotion! “An emotional release that is often described as ‘a feeling of lightness!’” WOW!!! No wonder my will power alone hasn’t put much of a dent in my resentment! Holy Spirit, You are the Source of my in-depth soul exploration. Guide my honest insights toward this place of “emotional equivalency” so forgiveness can happen! The biggest tipping point inevitably will be grasping how much You have forgiven me… that I need to pass along to others.
