Reflections 10/11/2020: Roo’s stash! Treasures of every kind! Stuffed toys. Stringless puppets. Chewed bones. Paper towel cardboards. Ropes. Balls. Socks. Flips that no longer flop. Exercise bands. And… what the heck? My favorite pajama top absconded from my closet! Dang!!! During his wild bewitching hours (5-9 pm … ahhhh!) he rifles through all his “stuff,” trying out each item for entertainment value! Reminds me of the memorable scene in “Oliver” where Fagin, (“the Receiver of Stolen Goods”), opens up his hidden chest of pilfered treasures to reassure himself of material security in his out-of-control world. Stuff! Imagined insulation from neediness. Today’s devotional busted me on my Roo/Fagin inclination to collect these cushioning items in my life.

“Though I have brought many pleasures into your life, not one of them is essential. Receive My blessings with open hands. Enjoy My good gifts, but do not cling to them. Turn your attention to the Giver of all good things, and rest in the knowledge that you are complete in Me!” (Jesus Calling)

WOW! Open hands! Enjoy but don’t cling! Fun… but not essential! Cancer taught me this anew as my luxurious mane, (my “women’s glory”), bit the dust… and I survived! Even thrived! So Roo, Fagan and Lynette, light of grip on “stuff!” It comes and goes! “Blessed be the name of the Lord!” (Job)
