Reflections 11/10/2020: Roo sniffed down a little chickadee in trouble a few days ago. He/she, (named him Acorn because his jaunty black cap looks like the hat on an acorn), got his tiny feet stuck to an adhesive tray Ed had put out to catch the winter-fleeing rodents in our yard. Poor little fellow had gotten his tail feathers and one wing cemented to the goopy tray as well. I carefully peeled his stuck appendages from the adhesive, amidst much beak protesting, but a chunk of tail feathers and a few essential wing feathers left his little body in the removal. Poor guy couldn’t fly. The good news however is that his internal organs were still perfect! So Roo and I confiscated Roo’s toy bucket and turned it into a rehab roost! We are determined to grow his feathers back, then release him back into the wild. Amazingly he seems to understand our intentions! Much less beak biting, shows interest in the seeds (especially sunflower) that we magically provide for him, and is starting to perch on my finger with some confidence! Reminds me of the times I have gotten myself into a fix Lord, and You’ve had to peel me out of my stuck places. Lots of squawking protests, then discovery that You have my best in mind, even in my incapacitated state of recovery! Wing feathers (like hair!) grow back slowly… but they do grow! May I, like little Acorn, learn to trust You in this healing process… and even grow to love You for Your gentle touch!
