Reflections 11/29/2020: I got to be transported back to being a mother of elementary school year kids yesterday! Braun and I were assaulted with brainstorming ideas of how to upgrade Acorn’s (chickadee we are rehabbing) cage into a bird paradise! So pine cones were transformed into an edible trapeze and a Kleenex box was morphed into an exotic nesting abode! The excitement of creativity was electric! Just like old times getting swept up in Braun and Bryn’s school projects! (I must admit I was one of those moms whose fingerprints were way too prolific smeared all over their end products! How I’ve missed those years!) Acorn was a bit overwhelmed by her new digs, but I have noticed the pine cones look a bit pecked over, so I think she is warming up to our aviary additions! She got out of her cage the other day so we were able to evaluate her progress of regaining flight thus far. More lift in her growing wing feathers, but not much rudder steering in her stumpy tail protrusions. Still, her energy as she pinballs all over her cage tells us she is indeed on the mend! Braun, thank you for this simple birthday gift of being your cohort in creativity once again! We still got it… 20 years later!
