Reflections 2/12/2020: Sometimes changing our pity parties is just a matter of perspective! Others’ woes can help us view our own more realistically. And catapult us out of our slumps! In fact there should be a website dedicated to just that! It could have a fun name like. “If you think you’ve got it bad…”, or “www.turn your self-pity into laughter.com! Come to think of it, that might be why the TV show in the 40s and 50’s, “Queen For a Day,” was so popular. It pitted a few female contestants in a competition to see who had the worst combination of horrible things happening in their lives! Tears flooded the studio audience as well as living rooms all over America as we voyeurs of others’ miseries vicariously realized our lives were pretty stinkin’ good in comparison! The sable-lined red velvet robe, crown and onslaught of gifts such as washing machines, new ovens, oxygen tents for the handicapped child and a much needed night out on the town with hubby, ameliorated any residue of guilt we felt for being relieved that this woman’s life was at least not ours! Perspective is everything! Soooo God, as I saunter into the infusion center for my first chemotherapy treatment today, bring these poor brick-movers to mind! And the healing laughter born of realizing that their agonizing dilemma is at least not mine!
