There is some rhyme and reason behind this peculiar growth of marigolds. An elementary teacher decided to give her class a life lesson on overcoming adversity, so they dropped flower seeds in an unlikely crack along a sidewalk to see what would happen. Even without much soil to work with, or tender loving care, these tenacious marigolds found a way to grow… even thrive! What a powerful way to convey a life lesson to inquisitive minds! My mom was a genius at these little lessons to her flock of 6 kids. She kept an eye out for quirky happenings and pointed them out to us in the midst of the hustle and bustle of daily life. Tadpoles turning to frogs came alive with transformation potential! Baby birds risking their maiden flights inspired us to take risks too. The ordinary became the extraordinary under her watchful eye and tutelage of her tongue. God, thank you for my mom! She rarely took time for herself and her legacy was never published for posterity, but she indelibly inscribed in the hearts of her children, a sensitivity for Your wonder-full workings all around us. As Mother’s Day approaches, give her a glimpse from Heaven of the marigolds she so generously planted in the cracks of our lives!
