Reflections 6/2/2020: “It is through knowing Me intimately that you become like Me. This requires spending time alone with Me.” (“Jesus Calling” for today.) Got me thinking about how much elderly couples grow to look like each other over the years. And not by chance! Time spent together. Communicating verbally and non-verbally so they know, and even anticipate each others’ deepest thoughts and feelings. So precious! But not unlike my experience of doing life with You Lord. I guess the nutrients that nurture relationships are the same, whether they run in horizontal or vertical planes. Time spent together. Intentionality in communicating. Honesty. Vulnerability. Allowing trust to grow. Forgiving when it is violated. Sharing the same dreams and goals. Cherishing the uniqueness in each other. Yep. It’s been 51 years of walking with You, Jesus, and I think I’m beginning to see some of Your likeness taking form in me! Brief glimpses, but occasionally there! A surprising compassion towards others where there used to be judgment. Or gentleness with my own flaws. Or an uncanny peace as my boat fills up with water from a raging storm. Maybe Your cameo appearances in my life will become more frequent and poignant as the years continue to progress! May You have a starring role in my senior years! Wrinkles and all!
