Reflections 9/4/2020: Roo is testing my resolve! I am determined NOT to let him become THAT dog who sits by the dining table and stares up at you during your entire meal! Begging. Scrounging for a scrap. Manipulating your conscience for eating in front of him! BUT those dang, longing eyes and Angry Bird eyebrows wiggling in rapt devotion are shredding my resolve! How do you say “no” to such a face? I want to explain to him that it is for his own good that I am seeming stingy, (both a character and weight issue), but that is a little too complicated of a concept for his canine brain. I wonder if You, God, wrestle with that same communication gap with us, “table begging” humans? Demanding prayers. “Not Your will, but ours be done! And the sooner the better!” Sorry. A contradiction of how You taught us to pray, “THY Kingdom come, THY will be done.” AND not very Jesus-like in the Garden of Gethsemane either. So as You shoo me away from my begging demands, (for my own good), may I re-resolve to call Roo to better table manners as well!
