Reflections 4/15/2020: I used to be an avid MacGyver fan in the 80’s! I could have cared less about the plot, because the point of the show was to watch MacGyver creatively escape from the most challenging, life-mangling situations with WHATEVER RESOURCES he could scrounge up around him! Rubber bands became sling shots! Paper clips, bullets! Leather belts, pulley systems. And don’t get him started with the possibilities of duct tape! He was my hero because of how inventive and resourceful his brain was! I wanted to be like him! I still do Lord! I want to see potential resources all around me, and MacGyver them into something valuable and useful. And I don’t mean just material items… I mean people’s hearts too! See hidden needs. Hear unspoken dreams. Sense burgeoning potential, churning just below the surface. Hmmm… now that I think about it, that’s exactly what You did for me Jesus! MacGyvered an unlikely soul out of sure captivity into a grand escape, to a place of freedom! Didn’t give You much to work with, but You used the little I gave You! Resourcefully. Creatively. Inventively. MacGyverly! So do I use the empty toilet paper roll as a bugle to call for help? Or do I eat the cardboard, mutilate it with my teeth and saliva, and form more paper out of the paste? Or better yet, pray for a bidet?
