Reflections 1/8/2020: I have always been fascinated by Jesus’ parable of the 10 virgins awaiting the coming of the bridegroom. (Unlike Islamic references to “virgins” that seem to exist solely for the sexual pleasures of jihadist martyrs… where is their Paradise?)! But feminine outrage aside, Jesus is calling us to “readiness.” A moment-by-moment connection with Him! Oil lamps full of light-giving oil! Hmmm… what does that mean? Oil is a metaphor for the Holy Spirit through Your Word, Lord. Sooo, I’m guessing full oil lamps means keeping our light-giving connection with the Holy Spirit alive and well! For me that means daily surrender. Attentiveness to His/Her indwelling whispers. Obedience to His/Her guidance. And allowing His/Her “fruits” to bud, blossom and bear actual fruit in my life! (Sorry for the gender complexity… kind of fell in love with The Shack’s personification of the Holy Spirit!) Sooo, Bridegroom come! My lamp is stoked with oil and I am ready to celebrate!
